If you are new to Making Sense of Cents, I am all about finding ways to make money from home and save more money as well. Here are some of my favorite sites and products that may help you out:
  • Watch the free Work At Home Summit. This is a free online conference from over 40 experts that will show you how to work from home. I watched this myself and really enjoyed it! You can attend the conference for free online here.
  • Cut your TV bill. Cut your cable, satellite, etc. Even go as far to go without Netflix or Hulu as well. Buy a digital antenna (this is the one we have) and enjoy free TV for life.
  • You should know your credit score – Check your credit score with Credit Sesame for free!
  • Answer surveys to earn money from home. Survey companies I recommend include SwagbucksSurvey JunkieAmerican Consumer OpinionPinecone ResearchOpinion OutpostPrize Rebel, and Harris Poll Online. They’re free to join and free to use! You get paid to answer surveys and to test products. It’s best to sign up for as many as you can as that way you can receive the most surveys and make the most money.
  • Sign up for a website like Ebates where you can earn CASH BACK for just spending like how you normally would online. The service is free too! Plus, when you sign up through my link, you also receive a free $10 cash back too!
  • Save money on food. I recently joined $5 Meal Plan in order to help me eat at home more and cut my food spending. It’s only $5 a month and you get meal plans sent straight to you along with the exact shopping list you need in order to create the meals. Each meal costs around $2 per person or less. This allows you to save time because you won’t have to meal plan anymore, and it will save you money as well!
  • I highly recommend Credible for student loan refinancing. You can lower the interest rate on your student loans significantly by using Credible which may help you shave thousands off your student loan bill over time.
  • Try InboxDollars. InboxDollars is an online rewards website I recommend. You can earn cash by taking surveys, playing games, shopping online, searching the web, redeeming grocery coupons, and more. Also, by signing up through my link, you will receive $5.00 for free just for signing up!

These are great side hustles that can easily turn into profitable businesses as you mentioned above. I love that you include real life examples and instructions on how to get started and succeed. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Thanks for this great list, Michelle! I love all these ideas! Also, I took Abby’s BookBoss course and loved it – highly recommended – and am publishing my first ebook this Christmas. I would add selling on Etsy too. Having an Etsy store can be a nice complement to a local or online business.

This is a great list of options to work from home. I personally opened up an e-commerce store 4 years ago and it’s been a great side hustle. My inaugural year, I was able to do $50k in sales within 4 months! I think if someone is determined enough, anything is possible.
Thanks for writing about the other options, I’m looking into ways where I don’t have to carry inventory, that’s the downside of some ecommerce businesses.

I made $775 dollars on eBay in the past 2 months – not rockstar status but for selling some clutter around the house and clothes? Feels pretty good!!
I always get people saying they need a personal assistant but no one makes the move, I think PAs do valuable work removing the monotony.

I was inspired by your strides to start my own blog. Admittedly am casual about it presently. ‘Just testing the water’, as they say. And I can see that it requires some effort to get going at the beginning. But am determined to give it the hammering it needs to take off. Thanks.

    Hi!
I started reading your e-newsletter since I found out about you from Mo Money Podcast. I love this content and I can tell you what my side hustle is that was not mentioned here. I have been a virtual translator via Upwork (freelancing platform). Since I’m originally from Japan, I started offering beginner to intermediate level translation last year. Since then, I have delivered over 6 dozens projects all satisfactorily. I like that each and every project is so unique and it really stimulates my brain and challenge myself to deliver high quality translation services. My hope is that one day when I get pregnant or want to stay home with my babies, I can just do this freelancing job and quit my 9-5 job. Upwork offers so many types of freelancing jobs other than translation, so I recommend to anyone who wants to capitalize their underutilized talents.

Great post about side-hustles Michelle. You listed a few ideas that piqued my interest…. I did look into the teaching English gig on VIPKids, the approval process seems long but I’m still interested.
I’ve been following your blog for a while now and I wanted to let you know that you inspired me to start my own just recently. I’m fully financially independent, but only semi-retired due to concerns over healthcare costs. But in my mid-40’s I think I still qualify as “early” semi-retired.
I’m just absolutely amazed at the audience you’ve built with your blog and the income you produce. I have no hopes of getting anywhere even in the same galaxy as you, but hope I can add a voice to the community and help at least a few folks. And I used your Bluehost link to get started 🙂

I’m not yet making as much money as I would want to but blogging has changed my life.
    Thanks for sharing.

Hi Michelle, such a great post! My bread and butter is freelance writing, and I’ve used that to create a full-time income online for around seven years now. I also have an eBay reselling business, and I absolutely LOVE doing that… Working from home can be quite isolating at times, so I love scheduling thrift store trips etc into my working week. It keeps me sane, and reselling is so fun 🙂

Writing is a very lucrative online career that can do more than be a side hustle. It’s a good thing the internet is here to stay and here’s why. For like-minded individuals looking to transition smoothly from a cushy day job to a side hustle and turn the side hustle into the full-time job will need to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to making the “writing side hustle” work for them. While a job is always good to have @ 1st because you need a roof over your head, one should focus more on entrepreneurship and not just having a job to pay the bills. That’s what the employer wants their employees to think and not be their own boss. Side hustles in my personal opinion bring out the best in everyone who makes good of writing online.

Awesome article. Covers everything in detail. Almost reminded me of my early days in blogging. I think you should do a part-time job as well as focus on marketing a single software or product related to your topic.

    Hi Michelle,
I want to start an affiliate marketing blog and also sell some of my career expertise such as career coaching and helping people with resumes and cover letters. I want to start a blog through your blue host link but I have some questions first. How do I create appropriate affiliate disclosures? What is the privacy policy that meets GDPR guidelines? (what does GDPR stand for?) Are there any more regulatory guidelines I need to know about? Also, what are some of the best affiliate sites to apply to? The only one I know about is Amazon.
    Thanks,
